Fat Loss
Why Building Muscle Helps You Lose Fat
If your whole picture of fat loss is cardio, more walking, more treadmill, more calories burned, I want to widen the frame, because you are missing the most powerful tool you have. The women who change their bodies for good after 40 are not the ones doing the most cardio. They are the ones building muscle. Here is why that works.
Muscle is your metabolic engine
Muscle is active, hungry tissue. It burns calories all day long, even while you rest, even while you sleep. So when you build muscle, you raise the number of calories your body uses around the clock, not just for the minutes you are exercising. Cardio burns fuel while you do it. Muscle upgrades the engine that burns fuel always.
It shapes the body you actually want
When women say they want to be toned, what they are describing is muscle under a lower layer of fat. You cannot get there by shrinking alone, endless dieting just makes a smaller, softer version of the same shape. Building a little muscle while you lose fat is what creates the firm, strong, capable look, and the feeling of strength that comes with it.
Do not just burn fuel, build the engine. Muscle raises your metabolism around the clock and gives you the toned shape that dieting alone never delivers.
The winning combination
Fat loss and muscle building are not opposites to choose between. Done right, with enough protein and steady strength work, they happen together, and that combination is what finally breaks the diet-rebound cycle. You are not trying to become smaller. You are trying to become strong and lean, and muscle is how.
